The Beaver and me

In one month’s time on Aug 16, 2017 the de Havilland Beaver will celebrate its 70th anniversary!

It’s hard for me to imagine a day without a bright yellow piston Beaver on floats at my front door.

De Havilland (DHC-2) Beaver C-GZBR and I go way back; all the way to my arrival home, at birth, from the hospital. more.

On assignment

Check flights often include more than a casual visit to an outpost.  Besides regular duties such as checking on guests, facilities, fuel and propane supplies and maintenance, additional staff might ride along to update photos and do the little things such as measure the cabins for curtains. more.

Sunset storm

When you have some valuable equipment tied to the dock outside your home, you tend to keep your eye on the sky (and the weather radar!)

Sunday evening, we noticed a line of heavy rain headed our way and went out to check that lines on the aircraft were secure.

After the rain and winds passed, the sun peeked out more.

Staff Shuffle

Over the years we have seen some very good staff come and then eventually move on.  Change is a constant in our lives.  This year we mark the moving on of a long time team member.

Joe at Ses has retired as camp attendant. Joe ran this camp for us for 8 seasons and did an awesome job ensuring more.

Fly-in fly fishing

When describing our business, there’s often confusion about the ‘fly’ part. We have seaplanes to ferry anglers to remote outpost cabins thus fly in. Fly fishing is a very small part of the angling opportunities we offer. Most of our guests jig or troll with great success for abundant northern and walleye in our outposts lakes. Occasionally we get some serious more.

Check the expiry date

A valid passport is required to reenter the States after your Canadian fishing adventure.

It is 10 years since the United States implemented the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.  This required all travellers, U.S. citizens and foreign nationals alike, including children to present a passport or other acceptable document that denotes identity and citizenship when more.
