Large moose

moose

A moose hunter guest in Thunder Bay sent me this photo.  It was  taken along the CP rail line in the area last fall.  The rails are 56 1/2 inches apart so this moose has a rack that would make any hunter proud.

We’ve seen moose this large at many of our outpost lakes too.  During the ...read more.

Oh the joys!

October brings some of the worst flying weather in our area.

It is also in October that we have moose hunters out and are in the last stages of our season. It happens often in October that as weather patterns change, we encounter flight delays. On Sunday, Randy and I went to our Seseganaga camp to pick up our successful ...read more.

Between archery and gun season

Posted by on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 7:50 am

Spike bull I called out for a photo op. My only weapon, a camera.

We are right between archery moose and gun moose seasons. Our camps are empty for a day or two. Our archer moose hunters managed 2 moose taken (one on Seseganaga and one on Hilltop) and between the 2 groups they saw 20 moose ...read more.

Lindor tries to help

Posted by on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 8:16 am

3 guesses as to what has Lindor’s attention on board the aircraft.

First clue: It is not a nubile young chocolate lab named Fifi.

Second clue: Archery moose season has begun.

What not to do.

Posted by on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 8:21 am

OK, I am not drawing a picture of a moose. I like to add a photo or two to each blog but all I have is a story about why I have no photo (or video).

We had archery moose hunters in Hilltop lake last week. They managed to call out a 50 inch plus bull. The bull approached boldly ...read more.

Fall is in the air

Posted by on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at 7:51 am

I wish it was me going moose hunting on Hilltop Lake this fall. Our fishermen last week took this picture of a 50 incher browsing near the outlet of the lake. I’m sure when called, he’ll come running, perhaps with a bouquet of flowers behind his back. Only weeks now until archery season opens.

more wildlife

Posted by on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 8:16 am

Bringing your camera on a fly in trip is good for more than taking pictures of your fishing partners in their underwear. Our part of the country is blessed with many types of wild life just aching to be photographed. All these pictures were taken with in days of each other in early August. The moose and loons were on ...read more.

Moose and calves

Posted by on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 12:23 pm

A cow moose and her two babies meandered down the Gamble River a couple of days ago. The Coppin Group at Irene Lake grabbed this photo of the moose. Cow moose often have twin calves. Scott Coppin stayed back about 100 yards so as to not frighten the moose as he took the photos. The cow and calves continued ...read more.
