The toughest landing

When conditions are like this, landing a seaplane is tough.  Glassy water requires precise technique and skill.

Landing on a lake with no wind is like landing on a mirror because there is no depth perception.  The pilot must have a proper rate of descent and use visual reference to shorelines, islands or rocks since he cannot more.

Only a few weeks away!

The requirement for boat operators to have proof of competency (a boat operators card) to operate a boat in Canada is only a few weeks away. As of Sept 15 this card is required to drive a fishing boat too. There is no grandfathering provision. I highly recommend that if you don’t have the card that you get one in more.

Passport is required

Posted by on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 6:31 am

I hate to harp on this but…

As you may be aware, the US has legislated passports for land travel into the US as of June 1, 2009.  This means a passport is needed to return home to the US even if you are a US citizen.

A passport is confirmation of citizenship and does not authorize travel if more.

Coldwater boot camp

I came across an excellent site for information on cold water immersion. I know that no one plans to fall into the lake while fishing but things happen when you least expect it. For those old boy scouts, “Be Prepared” is a great motto.

I encourage anyone who wishes to boat in our area to check out this site. more.

Brad is SICK!

Posted by on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 6:43 am

Yes, I am sick. Nothing to do with H1N1 or other exotic virus. I have that annual sickness that strikes on the third Sat in May. I have a bad case of “Walleye Fever”. This illness manifests itself like clockwork and leaves me in a state of duress until the remedy is applied. What makes it more severe for me more.

Fish regulation tips

Our 2009 season is immanently upon us.  In preparation for your adventure this summer here are some things to dwell upon.

Ontario, as many other jurisdictions, has it own fishing regulations.  More often than naught, any government regulation is written in language most lawyers can’t understand.  This is why there is always at least one lawyer on each side of more.

On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative . The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document .

See the Department of Homeland Security’s for more information on the changing travel more.
