Got the Cover shot

Besides fantastic fishing, Northern Ontario remoteness provides quiet solitude, pristine beauty and incredible night skies! Without light pollution, the stars shine brightly.

To capture this, all you need is a sturdy tripod and a camera capable of having the shutter open for up to 30 seconds. To add drama to a shot, select something for the foreground and a means to add just a little bit of light to it.

Karen did just that last summer when setting up some chairs at the end of the south facing dock and ‘painting’ the chairs with her iPhone flashlight for a few seconds while the shutter was open. The image won The Cottager photo contest and was chosen for the cover of the May/June issue! She writes about it on her blog. Congratulations, Karen!
